For this assignment in Corporate Publishing, we each had to design a cookbook based on an assigned theme. The theme that was chosen for me was holiday, which I was happy to work with as I felt I had a lot of different directions I could go in. I choose to create a dessert cookbook, focused around the twelve days counting down to Christmas and everyone's favorites, cookies! I drew inspiration from various cookbooks I looked through trying to get a better understanding on how they are formatted and such. To try and capture the holiday spirit and translate it into my book, I looked at Christmas cards for coloring, typography, patterning, etc. This was one of the projects where I used a lot of new tools in Illustrator, for this one mainly image tracing and how to play around with creating unique vector art. I feel that I also learned a lot about proper text placement and page flow while doing this project. Creating visual hierarchy to lead the eye where it's meant to, is vital in a book where the consumer is likely quickly glancing over at.
